Update knight phoenix

As shown in the title of this post, I've finally decided on a name for this guy.

Here's the latest WIP:

Knight robot preview

It's been a while since I last posted again, so here's a preview on my latest work
Haven't named this guy yet.

Still have my work cut out with this one.

Been a while since I last posted again... Here's some more concept art from me.

Had to reinstall windows from scratch because of crash loop.
Basically, now I've lost most of my older files, but I won't let that stop me.

Here's my latest bit of concept work.
You guys might have noticed, but I've grown a liking to the posterize tool thegimp comes with.

I've been meaning to do some papercraft for a while now, and I'm still doubting between either a mecha design or a musket...
Eventually I'm hoping to take a stab at concepting some papercraft based armor too, but for now, that one's still in the "eventually" pile.

Been a while since I last updated.

Here's a quick sketchy bit I've cooked up recently.

And a somewhat better one I've already put on my newgrounds account:

Back to doing a bit of modeling work

Alright, I've gone back to using sculptris a bit.
First of all, this program was prone to rediculous amounts of crashing.
I've reinstalled the program and turned off the "beautify" option in the settings and this seems to have worked.

Latest render:

Netbook autopsy

Around a year or so ago, I owned a compaq netbook.
It was pretty worn out by that time, to the point where the shell had a major crack along the length, and where I already had to repeatedly screw the screen brackets back in place (eventually just glued them in place)
Someone didn't see the power cord on the ground, and apparantly, these things can't withstand a one meter fall, so after a year and a half of decent service, it was pretty much beyond repair.

The thing was pretty much busted, and I did what every self respecting tech geek would do when equipment breaks out of warranty.
I pulled the thing apart to scavenge for parts, of course.
Here's the results, taken about a year ago.

As a sidenote, I didn't really get any useful parts from it.

More 3D stuff, this time voxel based.

I just discovered 3D-Coat V3, and here's what I pulled off in 15 minutes.
Nifty little program, and a lot more "responsive" than sculptris ever was.

Some random alchemy sketches I made today

Drawn in alchemy, gradient'ed in gimp

Quick female form study.
Didn't think it worked out too well.
Random freaky sketchy bit.
Quick bot design
Bot inspired sword hilt/Henshin device.
Messing around with the brush options here, went for a messy effect.
Creepy alien old guy
Wanted something symbol-like

I dub this one "the divine jester"

That's all for now, guys.

Alchemy is a lot more fun, and has more to offer than I recalled.

Rendered a strange scene just now

Just had an interesting sculptris session just now.
Here's the result of said session.
A mecha stuck in some sort of spherical prison.

Angel icon

Here's the opposite of my last alchemy+thegimp sketch.

Dinoman phase 1

I made another sculptris sculpture, this time going for a bit of a superhero motif.
Does anyone have any pointers on how to color this guy?

Exceed concept

Quick thegimp sketch

Alchemy + thegimp sketch icon

Made a quick sketch with a combination of alchemy and thegimp

My annoyances with computer problems

Allright, this will be my last post regarding this subject.

First of all, I'm using an asus X73S model laptop.

Around two months or so ago, the power supply to my laptop started acting a bit wonky, the adaptor plug had to be inserted at a particular angle to work, and even then was unstable.
Eventually it became necessary to apply pressure to get the thing to work properly, gradually more and more pressure to be specific.
There was also a sign I had ignored at the time, it became increasingly harder to pull the plug out.
When I noticed the plug of the adaptor also started heating up, I really started to get worried and started to recharge in short bursts.

After a while, the following happened:
Result

What I found when I took out the pin was that it was coated with burned plastic, and the plug for the adaptor also happened to have a plastic layer on the inside

Last friday, when I tried to take it to the store, they told me, as expected, that the general treatment is to simply swap out the motherboard for 300-400€.
I went to a smaller computer store, and they said they would repair it by swapping out the dc power jack for around 115€, but the lady was rather rude and absolutely fixated on the fact that we were at fault for the damages. (If she hadn't started repeating this, she'd probably be around 80€ richer right now.)
I then went to another store where I just ordered a new dc power jack for 25€, which arrived yesterday.

Because I didn't have any desoldering tools at hand, I had to destroy the broken part to be able to solder the pins out.
The replacement part did have a smaller cross section that the original part, which would've been a problem if I had intended to use my old adaptor (no thanks, don't want to ruin this jack too.) instead of this universal adaptor I still had lying around here.
In the end it all worked out and now my laptop is charging perfectly.

sketch and draw sketch

considering the fact that my laptop is currently down, my computer access is limited to a samsung galaxy mini.
Not much, but it'll have to do for now.

first sketch included, made with a smarphone pen I made myself with a broken pen, some electrical wire I salvaged from a broken headset, and some swabs, so basically for free.

DC power jack on laptop broke... :s

the power supply on my laptop has been unstable for a while, and yesterday, after taking out the plug... well, the attached images speak for themselves.
The pin just came right out, so I guess I need to take this thing to the store.
This means no more renders for a while, I'm afraid...
Does anyone know any good pixel art programs for android by any chance?

Latest sculpt: biomech

Here's the uncolored version

And here it is, colored and textured.
It's supposed to be a symbiotic organic battlesuit.(bust)

Trooper update

I continued working on my trooper model, and here's the result, and final video.
And for the lulz, here's a failed attempt at coloring in sculptris.

Sculptris trooper update

Did some more work on the body.
I'm guessing two more before I consider this one finished.

Latest project (screen capture wip)

I decided to film the progress of this latest project using camstudio.

Stage 1:
Stage 2:
Still far from done, still a lot of fun to be had.

Forest dragon

Made in sculptris.
I also tried to make a hypercam recording, but sadly that turned out crappy.

What seems to be my most popular work so far

For today's first post, I'll just share one of my old works.
What's kinda nice about this work is that it's the first image result you get when looking up the term "gleaming armor" in google.

I recently added a link to this blog on the image itself too.

Monday, August 13, 2012

Created another sculptris sculpt.

I still haven't mastered this program in full yet, but I'll get there eventually.
Seems my gimp editing for this one was a bit lacking.

Some of my more organic artwork

I know it hasn't even been an hour since my last post, but don't worry.
I'm already running out of "presentable" concept art. :D

This post concerns artwork with a slightly more organic touch to it.
For instance, I 3D painted this guy here with sculptris this weekend.
Had fun doing it too.

I went for a demonic beetle vibe with some samurai mixed in for good measure.
Here's a full body shot thrown in for good measure.
I'm aware that the stuff below the abdomen wasn't really up to par with the rest of the scene, but the program suddenly decided it didn't really feel like working with me anymore.
Must've hit some sort of polygon limit?
I think it didn't turn out too bad for a first experiment.

I also drew some stuff with a combination of alchemy and thegimp
Take this obviously resident evil inspired fellow.
I think I overdid it with the cartoony elements here, though.

This guy here is either a bug or a feature.
I leave that up to you guys to decide, but it was my first semi-serious attempt at doing something useful with alchemy.

The next two are made completely in thegimp

This is just a random design element, but I thought it was semi-cool enough to show you guys.

I basically drew this, then added a few fillers for cooler effects.
Meet the bugman!

That's all for the mutants and organic stuff for now, guys.
But with my discovery of sculptris, expect more from this department in the nearby future.
